City-based muralist and eminent artist Sumeet Dua’s art works and installations are part of the display at the Punjab Art Summit at VR Ambarsar mall. Dua, who has extensively worked with mix medium and metal, has created installations for Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport and several prominent places. Dua has transformed a junk car into a beautiful piece of art, naming it ‘Kala Car’, a breathtaking masterpiece canvas on wheel that is a symphony of vibrant colours.
The car installation has intricate motifs and lush depictions of flowers and plants. He brings the diversity in nature to the forefront, celebrating its harmony and exuberance. The otherwise mundane vehicle has been turned into a moving expression of creativity and cultural vibrancy.
“Kala Car is more than just art. It is a journey through colours, emotions and the boundless beauty of nature in motion. The fact that this exhibition brings together over 100 pieces of art, including paintings, sculptures and installations to the forefront, turning a commercial place like shopping mall into a lively art space, reflects the intent behind such an event,” says Sumeet Dua while talking about the exhibition and his works.
Another of his work, ‘Mirrored Horizons’, is an installation that features large, free-standing round mirrors mounted on both sides, strategically placed to reflect multiple angles of the surrounding space. The mirrors invite visitors to engage with their own reflection and the broader environment, creating an experience that encourages contemplation of personal and societal boundaries.
Dua explains, “By interacting with the installation, viewers are prompted to confront the tension between the concept of the ‘self’ and the ‘other’. The mirrors symbolise how identities are shaped through interaction with the world and challenge the conventional notion of separation, emphasising the inter-connectedness of all. It’s a reflective process, the piece highlights the fluidity of boundaries—physical, mental and societal—inviting viewers to consider how they transcend or reinforce these limits in their lives,” he says.
Another of his work, ‘Boundless Flight’, is an installation featuring origami birds in vibrant rainbow colours, suspended gracefully from a circular frame from top.
“Through this visual metaphor, I aim to create an immersive experience that invites viewers to reflect on the power of overcoming boundaries—whether they be cultural, geographical or personal,” he says.
